MSO: A Paradigm Shift?
Dr O is proud to have written this paper and its effect on the practice of orthodontics. It has been often cited to control the development of a method of dental management which time has proven to be problematic. When it was written it was not at all clear how the structural management of dental offices might change in the new millennium.

Things That Make Me Nervous
This article by Greg Huang talks about the perception of Evidence Based Dentistry among the dental community.
The timing of early treatment: An overview
This article provides an overview on the scientific evidence for practicing early orthodontic treatment.
The timing of Class II treatment
This study is an overview of early treatment to correct an overbite from evidence presented at the American Association of Orthodontists Symposium on Early Treatment.
Timing of Class II treatment: University of Florida
Conclusions: There is temporary skeletal change as a result of phase I treatment but no detectable difference between 1-phase and 2-phase treatment for overbite by the end of full orthodontic treatment.
Two phase Class II treatment: North Carolina Study
Two phase treatment is no more effective than 1-phase treatment. Two phase treatment did not reduce the time a child is in braces during a second stage of treatment.
Effectiveness of early orthodontic treatment with a Twin Block: Part One
Early treatment with Twin-block appliances resulted in reduction of over bite, correction of molar relationships, and reduction in severity of the malocclusion. Most of the correction was due to dental changes, but some was due to favorable skeletal change.
Effectiveness of early orthodontic treatment with a Twin Block: Part Two
Early treatment with the Twin-block appliances resulted in an increase in self-concept and a reduction of negative social experiences. The subjects also reported treatment benefits that could be related to improved self-esteem.
The case against 2 phase treatment - editorial
This editorial presents an overview of the controversy with multiphase orthodontics and reviews findings from a study in the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics.
Statistical Analysis of Two Phase Treatment
This study reviewed data collected from one office about the efficiency of two phase orthodontic treatment. The information is consistent with data from the Schulman Study Group (top tier orthodontic practices in the USA).
Two phase treatment requires many more visits to the orthodontic office. It is half as efficient as one-step treatment with no improvement in outcome.
